Services Offered

Career Voc. Ed. provides a variety of resources and services for students that have an Individualized Education Plan (I.E.P.) Some of the following services that we provide are:

Department of Rehabilitation Referrals for Seniors

Department of Rehabilitation is an agency run by the State of California that provides job placement for students with an active I.E.P.  D.O.R is here to help YOU fulfill your employment goals and achieve independence. They can also provide funding to pay for tuition and books if you plan to pursue any post-secondary education (community college, trade school, etc...).  Every 12th grade senior that is scheduled to exit Downey High this June should enroll with D.O.R. NOW.  As a student, you will be given priority enrollment as oppose to waiting until after graduation when the wait and process will be longer.  If you have not signed up for Department of Rehabilitation, please see your counselor or Ms. Brady in her office between rooms C-2 and C-3.  Visit the Department of Rehabilitation's website.

C.O.P.S.  (Career Occupations Preference System) Assessment for Freshmen and Seniors

Have you decided which career you would like to pursue after graduation? What are your strengths? This assessment will help you target the direction you want to go in.  We start the process in 9th grade because before you know it, you’ll be graduating!!!

Employment/Job Training Opportunities

Through ROP and Workability you can learn on- the-job training. Any experience you gain will only help you in the future!

Community College Exposure/Excursions in Spring

Ms. Brady will provide you with information throughout your Senior year. Also, a yearly Spring tour of a community college campus will be available for you to attend. Watch for the dates!!!

Annual Career Fair in the Spring

Each Spring, a Job/Career Fair will be held in the gymnasium. This is the day to walk around and get information from colleges, trade schools, and potential employment opportunities. Don’t miss this day!

Agency Referrals (Easter Seals, ARC, W.A.P.A.D.H., Regional Center, etc.)

For students with moderate/ severe disabilities, an afternoon is dedicated to showcase different agencies available upon completion of high school. Watch for the upcoming date!!!

Community Based Training/Transition

Along with working in the community, students will learn to walk or take the bus to/ from their job site. Students will go on community outings and become familiar with the city of Downey and what it has to offer.

Ms. Brady is available in room C-2 to assist you in any way. If you have any questions about what will happen after high school, don’t hesitate to contact Ms. Brady.

PLANNING FOR YOUR FUTURE TAKES TIME! DON”T WAIT! START TODAY!
