Welcome to Downey High School's Guidance and Counseling information page.  Here you will find a bounty of information on all aspects regarding the Guidance department at Downey High. If you are looking for information on scholarships, college visitations, financial aid information and links, please visit the College and Career Center's webpage.  The Guidance Office is supervised by the Assistant Principal of Curriculum and Guidance, Mrs. Lisa Lucke.  Additionally, there are eight full time counselors on staff to serve students depending on letter of their last name.  The Guidance Office also consists of a Secretary, responsible for administrative tasks; a Registrar, who is responsible for transcripts and other records; as well as a clerk responsible for grades and other record-keeping and other administrative tasks.

Services Offered

  • Information and advice on college and career planning

  • Videos and catalogues on colleges from around the country

  • Information on specialized programs, such as culinary schools, art institutes, the military, etc.

  • Personal counseling or referrals to outside counseling (all held in confidentiality)

  • Resources for academic help:  free tutors, weekly progress reports, etc.

  • Conferences between parents, teachers, and students

  • Open Door Policy - parents and students are encouraged to come in and ask questions.  We are a good place to start if you need an answer to something.  If the Guidance Office does not have the information or service you need, chances are we will know where to refer you for further assistance.

  • Students may come in before or after school, at snack or lunch to see counselors

  • Parents may drop in, but are encouraged to call (see numbers below) and make an appointment to ensure that the counselor they want to see is available.  Many times we can help you by phone.

  • We are located in the Main Office next to the parking lot at the front of the school - at Firestone and Brookshire.
