General Information

  • Downey High School has approximately 850 computers on campus.  This includes 176 computers in the Business Department computer labs, and 36 student-use computers in the DHS Library.

  • Every classroom has at least one computer for teacher use.  All staff-use computers are connected to a local area network, which connects to the Internet provided by the Los Angeles County Office of Education.

  • The Summer of 2007 saw the addition of 2 new computer labs:  one for the Business Dept equipped with 32 student computers and one for teacher use with 36 student computers available.  Both labs are equipped with new Gateway computers.

  • There are a total of 3 locations available for class computer usage:  Library, R-24, and C-111.

  • Next to the Business Department, the Science Department utilizes the largest number of student-use computers.  They have 96 computers available for student use, including 35 laptops.

  • All computers run or will run the Windows XP operating system, and Microsoft Office 2003 Professional suite.

  • The campus utilizes a domain system, in which all users are required to have a personal log in ID to use computers that are connected to the network.

  • There is a file server installed on site, which is used for remote storage of data available for use by all staff and students.  It has the capacity to store 600 GB of data.

  • DHS employs one part-time site-based technician who is responsible for maintaining all campus computers.
